Since I opened The Sommerville in 2022, I have been offering my guests friendly hospitality and comfortable accommodations in a relaxed environment. My passion for this venture is twofold. Firstly, because of my grandmother’s unwavering compassion and hospitality to every single person she came in contact with.
​
Secondly, as a traveling sales professional for over twenty years, I have utilized the services of numerous hotels during my tenure with LINC Systems, Stanley Works & Stanley Black and Decker in the capacity of a territory manager, regional account manager and a national account manager.
​
These positions required extensive travel across the US and the Grand Cayman, earning platinum, diamond and spire status with Hilton, Marriott and Holiday Inn hotel groups. Over the years I have come to develop a deep understanding of the weary and tired traveler's desire for a relaxed, comfortable and tranquil environment that offers unparalleled service and hospitality. A getaway to recharge and reset.
I am the mother of two children, a son and a daughter. The proud grandmother of seven, an American ex-pat, owner of this modern upscale bed and breakfast where the rooms are as unique as you are.

Four suites are located on the main floor surrounded by vibrant flower gardens and tropical fruit trees. Four suites are on the second floor and all suites have a private veranda. There is plenty of gated parking for your convenience.

Each guest room is unique in its décor. All offer a private en-suite, fabulously comfortable bed with high count linens, comforters, high-quality plush pillows, sumptuous robes and slippers.
All suites offer AC, ceiling fan, TV, Wi-Fi, coffee pot, mini-fridge/freezer, smoke alarm, and an array of bath amenities.

Mornings at the Sommerville begin with a harmonious gourmet breakfast served in our dining room. We offer plenty of assertively brewed Jamaican blue mountain coffee, accompanied by breads, eggs, bacon, pancakes, seasonal fruits, teas and juices.
​
For the adventurous connoisseur, there is the traditional Jamaican fare of sauté plantains, festival, ackee and salted cod. Guests enjoy a refrigerator stocked with water and soft drinks. So, take our beach towels and head for the beach just minutes away where the parking is free.
When you return from your day, fix yourself a cup of tea, lemonade or head to the bar for cocktails.

COMPANY HISTORY
The Sommerville is a private upscale Bed and Breakfast established in 2020. It is located on West End Road in Negril, Jamaica‘s most southwestern town.
This adventure is a labor of love, born from the deep admiration, respect and memories of a beloved grandmother, Adora Rebecca Sommerville.
She was affectionately called “Mama” by the two granddaughters she raised.
“Mama” was a truly progressive woman who worked diligently to support her young children when her partner died. Some might consider single parenthood a burden, but “Mama” had an unwavering love for children. Always acting as a mother to all, she would often say, “Every woman’s child is my own”.
It was this love for children, her strong belief that each generation must do better than the previous one and her sense of family obligation that moved her to raise two of her granddaughters so that her daughter could join her husband overseas to pursue employment.
While they lived and worked abroad to provide for their family, “Mama” nurtured the two granddaughters, mentally and spiritually while sharing her wisdom and character. She taught them the core values of love, empathy and compassion, demanding that they demonstrate self-respect and respect for others.
Through her commitment to doing hard work with a sense of pride, she modeled humility, honesty and fairness within the granddaughters.
These granddaughters became full-time benefactors of “Mama’s” teachings, sense of duty and passion for empowerment. It was this upbringing that allowed them to achieve success in their own rights and to mold that successful model with the next generation.
The hope is that during your stay at The Sommerville, you will experience “Mama's” hospitality and love for humanity in everything that we do.
